Watch Out!!

One of our duties as parents is to keep our kids away from things that can hurt them. We feel accomplished when a crisis is averted, and with small children this happens several times a day. Don't stick your finger in the light socket, don't cross the street without looking both ways, you get the picture.
What you don't think about is parents injuring their children accidentally. At least we didn't think much about it until daddy accidentally put Connor's head up in the ceiling fan while it was running. Yep, he's totally fine and didn't cry but a few minutes. Not a scratch or bruise on his big noggin. He and Keaton were hanging in his crib before bedtime and when Michael pulled Connor out of the crib he forgot that the ceiling fan was on high! After hearing several thuds he realized what he had done. Needless to say he felt horrible, and I'm sure it won't happen again. Connor was unphased, but we did start to wonder when he started to act like a cat with his meowing and licking. But that's just his current animal of choice, last week it was a mouse.

Visiting Murray

A few more pictures from our visit with Mimi while Poppy's in London. Connor only let me take the ones of him showing his muscles at the pool. So you'll have to look at the rest of us. We all had a good time and Papaw (Michael's dad) took Connor to the Murray High soccer field where he ran, and ran, and ran until they were both worn out.

Keaton beat on the back door when he saw all the kitties out on the porch. They slowly moved as far away as possible from him. Cats have a good sense of who to watch out for. Keaton's definitely one of them!

Keaton's Got Two Teeth

Thank you to Dr. Blum's office for the cute "Canadian jammies." They fit perfectly.
Hurray!! Keaton's got his two bottom front teeth now.

Quotes From Connor

We spent the last half of last week in Murray to keep Mimi company while Poppy's out of the country. These lovely shots were taken at the pool on Saturday. My request was, "Show me your muscles!"

Let me set the scene.....Last night as I was sweetly singing a few tunes for Connor while lying in the dark with him beside me in his bed. He whispers, "Mommy feel my finger." I do only to find a nice little present freshly picked from his nose. I yell, "Connor that's GROSS!" His reply, "It's just a boogie!"

4th of July Parade

We headed out to the 4th of July parade in Murray. Connor was all excited about the candy of course. It was a nice little hometown parade.
The green house is my favorite Main St house on the 4th.

Mr. Pouty face loves to stick his lips out when he's mad. Cracks me up.
Keaton was great, no pouty lip faces here!
It started out as a nice enjoyable 4th but then it took a turn for the worse. Picture this.......we are all sitting down to a nice 4th of July meal with both sets of grandparents and great grandma, and a huge storm blows through town. We're talking black skies, trees blowing sideways, and torrential rain. Turn on the t.v. to hear that a tornado has been spotted in the area. Power goes out. Quickly clean out parent's packed hall closet for impending tornado. Three year old running around with a flashlight asking if we are going to blow away in the storm. Baby crying, it's way past his bedtime. Husband eating his unfinished dinner alone in the dark at the dining room table. Great grandma is not feeling well, sits in hall closet with her tissues and a bowl, just in case. Wait. Wait some more. Rain subsides. Wind stops. No power, but all is well. Take g.g. back to retirement home. Have cake in the dark for dad's 65th birthday. Open presents in the dark. Fireworks cancelled. Opt for sparklers in the driveway. Dance party (led by 3 year old) ensues. Ponder moving family to in-laws house with power. Our power comes back on. Hurray! That was our 4th of July. Kind of funny when you look back at it now. We were all safe and sound, and that's all that matters anyway!

Birthday Celebration

My dad turned 65 on July 6th so we had an early birthday party with the annual flag cake. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of it until after we'd cut the first piece.
Happy Birthday Poppy, we love you!!

Just hanging with Gigi on the couch.
My parents got Connor this cool vintage firetruck.

3 Little Monkeys

We stopped off in Paducah on our way to Murray to spend the night with Kerrie, Nate and Bailey.
This was the response to the question, "Who wants a sucker??"

A Cheerio You Say?

"What? I have a cheerio on my face?"
"Is it still there?"
"I think I'm going to keep it. I look like a bull or some weird baby with his nose pierced."

Happy 9 months Keaton!!

Our little boogie turned 9 months old on the 4th of July. What?? He's only got 3 more months until his first birthday. That's just unbelievable to us. He's still happy as a clam and loves to crawl around and explore everything including the cat's litter box. He's cruising on all of the furniture and I think walking might not be too far away. We go for his 9 month checkup next week so I'll post his weight, etc.

Comments from Connor

Living with a 3 1/2 almost 4 year old can be trying at times, but then they'll bust out a few one liners that just crack you up. I have daily comments that I try and remember to pass on to his dear old dad when he comes home from work, but my brain is just to full of other things to remember them all. Here are a few I'd like to share......
When packing for Florida in May he was jumping all over the bed and in our suitcases. Mommy says, "Connor if you don't quit jumping on this bed I'm gonna make you take a nap!" His reply dripping with sarcasm, "I'll give YOU a nap!"
Upon returning from Florida we opened up the old sandbox in the back forty to discover ants has taken up residence. I tried my best to get them out, but Connor as always had to question how they had gotten there. My usual response, "I don't know why." He ponders for a moment and says, "I guess God put them there." Good enough.
He's watched a few Disney movies that have words like, "shut up" and "stupid." We had to have a talk about why we don't say these things because they aren't nice words. So he's constantly reminding us at random moments that we don't say shut up and stupid.
Another word added to the list is "whatever." Here is how he uses it in a sentence....Mommy: "Connor please come put on your shoes so we can GO!" Connor: "Whatever." (said perfectly as a teenager would which makes me realize I don't want him to be a teenager, ever). I know for sure that he got it from me because I say it all of the time. Now he loves to be Mr. Hall Monitor and will say, "Did I hear someone say whatever?"
Next example.....while eating dinner at Red Robin with Michael's parents he ordered a hamburger. Being 3 means that he's not the most patient person especially when the meal includes french fries. The waitress comes by to check on us and he asks, "Where in the HELMET is my hamburger??" We all just looked at each other. Yes, you can figure out what he was really trying to say. We had to have a talk about that as well.

Downs After Dark and Celebrity Sightings

Dear friend Dave who almost drank bits of glass during a recent visit to Churchill received tickets to Churchill's Downs After Dark last Friday night. We had a great time and got to sit in Millionaires Row which was nice, especially considering the weather was soooo hot and we could go inside to the wonderful A/C.

Saw a few reality stars, celebrities if you want to call them that, from Survivor, The Amazing Race and Southern Belles.

Didn't win a darn thing. I never do.

Where's My Splinter??

So the first day I go to work out at the Y, we thought Connor had broken his finger. Apparently a kid slid on top of him on the slide in the kid area and no one decided to come get me or tell me about it. Not good. We went to the Pediatrician and then to the ER for an x-ray (wasn't broken after all just a bad bruise and some swelling). Next stop was the other office for our Pediatrician because he needed a finger splint (or splinter as the injured one called it). We've not been back to the Y to exercise since I don't feel comfortable leaving them there. He wore the "splinter" for several days and did NOT want to take it off. I told him I had thrown it away after it became waterlogged and fell off in his friend's little pool. All is well now and we are anxiously awaiting the large bill from the ER!

Father's Day Weekend

We went to Nashville to visit with my family and went to the Cheesecake Factory for brunch on Father's Day. So so good!
This pouty face is one of Connor's favorites. If he's mad about something he just sticks those lips out.
